The project is to undertake a detailed and robust feasibility study to test the achievability of the vision of transforming Haverfordwest Castle into a top quality heritage attraction that attracts both local people and visitors to the county town.
The study will look in depth at the feasibility and costs of delivering the project, both in capital terms and how the project could be sustainable in revenue terms.
The project galvanized the partnership of 12 organizations and directly led to a funding award from Welsh government to deliver access improvements to the burgage plots on the south bank of the castle.
The feasibility study led to others considering an innovative interpretation method which would use a STEM [science, technology, engineering and mathematics] approach to interpreting history as a means of making it a more accessible topic. As far as we are aware, this is not been done anywhere else.
The project is now in the process of delivering the preconstruction RIBA stages for phase 1 of the vision that came from the feasibility study and is RIBA stage III for delivering one part of phase 1 with Welsh government funding. The project is seeking external funds for a construction budget to complete phase 1 and is now looking at phase 2.
