Natural and cultural resources
The main aim of the project is to provide a land train service benefitting local communities and visitors, highlighting tourism, heritage and culture, which will increase and promote tourism throughout the local areas, linking communities and amenities. Whilst delivering an innovative, and completely new, heritage based tourism attraction, the project will improve and enhance knowledge of our local history, and will be sustainable and accessible to all.
The land train set out to enhance the experience of visitors and residents alike, promote tourism and associated job/business security and creation of other village based opportunities; and aimed to promote the linking and development of the three communities in Saundersfoot, Amroth and Wiseman’s Bridge. Being fully accessible meant that the train enabled those people previously excluded, due to physical disabilities and mobility issues, to enjoy better access to the village and surrounding areas.
The Project worked collaboratively with reports of increased partnerships being established with Pembrokeshire County Council, Edwards Coaches, Saundersfoot Bay Heritage and Regeneration Trust, Tenby Male Choir and Saundersfoot Primary School.
Delays with delivery of vehicle as well as break-downs created problems in the initial trial period and Covid-19 caused restricted/limited capabilities during 2020 and 2021 which meant they were not able to offer a replacement vehicle.
’’ Being fully accessible, the train will allow those people previously excluded, to enjoy easy access to the village and surrounding areas’’.
