Local Services
The association intend to employ a Project Developer to investigate the need for facilities for older people in the local community, including luncheon clubs, health and wellbeing classes, volunteering opportunities and to work with the onsite Lee Davies Day Care Centre to possibly extend provision. The Day Care Centre is currently operated by Pembrokeshire County Council. The association would also like to investigate the viability of operating the facility should the local authority withdraw funding in future budget cuts.
Five events took place over the course of the year including afternoon teas, tea dance/twmpath, a health and wellbeing day, and an intergenerational sing along. NDCSA has forged new partnerships with SPAN Arts, Transition Bro Gwaun, Trussell Trust, Pembrokeshire Food Bank, Hubbub and many small local groups that welcome older people.
The project successfully linked the older persons groups at Bloomfield with child care groups to take part in mutually beneficial activities for old and young. e.g. Lee Davies Day Care Centre and Bloomfield Day Nursery.
Views of over 100 older people in Narberth examined and captured and a database of groups that welcome older people in Narberth created and outlined a need for a luncheon club and local interest in surplus food sharing which resulted in a Community Fridge and Larder Project for 2018.
A successful pilot scheme, but attendance registers for events need to be kept.
“The support from Arwain Sir Benfro and LEADER has meant that we have been able to form new partnerships with SPAN Arts, Transition Bro Gwaun, Trussell Trust, Pembrokeshire Food Bank, Hubbub, The Campaign to End Loneliness and many small local groups that welcome older people.”
