Community Assets Fund Pilot

The project aims to develop an on-line cloud based platform to allow Pembrokeshire communities to easily raise funds for maintaining local assets and facilities such as playing fields, play equipment, village halls, notice boards and so on. The concept of the fund is that individuals pay a £1 a week and then sees 50p of the £1 used for supporting community assets and facilities. The remaining 50p is split between regular prizes and running costs of the fund, but a centre fund will also evolve for specific non-locational projects. With the need to safeguard local services and support the maintenance of local assets there is now a clear opportunity to ask local people to support in the maintaining and development of local assets and facilities.

Project Outcomes:

• Encouraged more people to participate and support local services and assets and enabled greater community interaction and resilience.

• Provided an annually recurring financial resource for community groups. This was achieved by, members of the community joining the Asedion fund where 50% of their membership is allocated to building community capacity and asset purchase.

• Created an online interactive platform to support voluntary treasurers within the community groups.

• Developed a new member’s digital platform accessed through the website, via a password-protected accounts.

• By October 2020 over £1000 in prizes had been awarded and Canolfan Hermon received a payout of £1092 to put towards their community work.

Lessons Learned:

Pre-Covid the scheme organised and ran Promoters Events, which would invite people from various rural communities to come and find out how the scheme could help their community groups. During the national lockdown periods, organising these events proved challenging but we utilised the options of Teams and Zoom meetings to continue to engage with our communities.
