St David’s Social Media City: Mobile App

The project is to pilot digital tourism project through a local news/info Mobile App that obtains its content from social media activity (user generated content) website links, and RSS feeds.  There is a mountain of data/information out there and this App takes the relevant specific info and displays it for the user on their request.

Project Outcomes: 

The app is up and running, linking the community together with useful, pertinent information.  It works well with live updates according to the topics selected, informing locals and visitors the latest information.  The project enabled the app to be built and is now sustainable and free to use, updated by businesses, with administration tasks and support for its use undertaken by volunteers (more of which will be trained up).  The project plans to add more content and businesses, continue to advertise, making roadside advertising banners and hopes that within a few years the full potential of the app will be realised.

Lessons Learned:

Unfortunately, any new app created cannot be backwards compatible, therefore older smart phones are not able to run the app.
