Project Description:
Develop a business plan for the delivery of a community led integrated renewable energy system, deploying smart technology; storage solutions and hydrogen production addressing issues including energy smoothing and grid constraints, to provide a sustainable and resilient local network.
Project Outcomes:
This Project planned to deliver a community led integrated renewable energy system, deploying smart technology, storage solutions and hydrogen production, addressing energy smoothing and grid constraints. The Project consisted of 3 main project areas that was split between the local grid system work and hydrogen plant.
Mapping of the local grid network system did take place which identified existing renewable technologies. Detailed research activities also took place to explore different options and to review other available energy schemes.
The Project was able to use its period with LEADER to engage with communities and compile further detailed reports and a business plan.
“With all the news about our changing climate it’s really important we empower people to make decisions for themselves when it comes to using energy. Our ‘Energy in the Community’ event demonstrates that there are a number of existing solutions that individuals and groups can take to decrease their carbon emissions, whilst also contributing to a positive future.”
Lessons Learned:
The Project reported that due to grid constraints in the area and changes in government funding, TGB could not attract market investment into the Trecoed Farm scheme. TBG require support to investigate connection and energy storage options at the site and develop the scheme to a point where it is commercially viable and attracts market investment.
